£1million Aberdeen transfer miss ‘revealed’ as Nicolas Milanovic beams after making Australia bow

Hungary U-21 star Denes Vilmos snubbed a £1million move to Aberdeen in favour of a switch to the second tier in Belgium.

That’s according to the player’s agent who helped engineer a deadline day transfer to Kortrijk from Hungarian outfit Zalaegerszegi.

Jimmy Thelin’s side had a successful end to the summer window, securing a real coup with the loan signing of Bologna star Jesper Karlsson as well as permanent deals for Scotland duo Kevin Nisbet and Stuart Armstrong.

The Dons were linked with winger Vilmos and his representative Sowunmi Thomas has revealed that the Pittodrie club did make offers for his services before he ultimately decided to go to Belgium, where he will be a teammate of ex-Celtic defender Matthew Anderson.

He said: “In the last few days, Scottish side Aberdeen also made a second offer and Denes could have gone there.

“But we agreed with him that it would be more beneficial for his development to transfer to a team that is fighting for promotion and plays with a distinctly attacking approach, where he would play every week, rather than try and work his way into the team in the top flight of Scottish football.

“That is why he ultimately chose Kortrijk. We are grateful to Zalaegerszeg for allowing him to leave and giving him an excellent opportunity.”

Meanwhile, Aberdeen new boy Nicolas Milanovic says he will remember the moment he made his senior bow for Australia for the rest of his life.

The wide man – who joined the Reds from Western Sydney Wanderers in the summer – appeared as a substitute in the Socceroos’ 1-0 friendly win over local rivals New Zealand.

Speaking after the game, he said: “It’s something I have been waiting (to happen) for a while. It means a lot to me and my family as you dream of (doing it) as a kid.
